Bitcoin Ordinals on Collab.Land: What Changed and How to Set Up Access

What Changed

In March 2026, Magic Eden deprecated support for Bitcoin-related APIs, including those used for Ordinals.

These APIs were previously part of the infrastructure used by platforms like Collab.Land to verify Bitcoin-based assets for token gated access.

As a result, some existing Bitcoin Ordinals verification setups may have stopped working or become unreliable.

This change was external and not initiated by Collab.Land, but it required an update in how Ordinals ownership is verified moving forward.

What This Means for Your Community

If your community uses Bitcoin Ordinals for access:

  • Older Token Gated Rules (TGRs) may no longer work as expected
  • Collection-based verification (from previous providers) may fail
  • You may need to update your configuration to restore access

The good news: there are reliable ways to set this up today.

How Ordinals Verification Works Now

There are currently two supported ways to identify Bitcoin Ordinals holders:

This is the most reliable and future-proof method.

Instead of relying on third-party collection indexing, you define a range of inscription numbers that belong to your collection.

How it works:

  • Each Ordinal has a unique inscription number
  • Your collection spans a range (e.g., 1000 → 2000)
  • Users qualify if they hold any inscription within that range

How to find the range:

  • Go to an Ordinals marketplace (e.g., Satflow)
  • Search for your collection
  • Sort by:
    • Inscription: Low to High → starting number
    • Inscription: High to Low → ending number

2) Collection Name (Ordiscan Only)

This method works only if your collection is indexed on Ordiscan.

How it works:

  • You input the collection name exactly as listed on Ordiscan
  • Collab.Land verifies ownership based on that indexed collection

Important:

  • If your collection is not listed on Ordiscan, this method will not work
  • In that case, use inscription ranges instead

How to Create a Bitcoin Ordinals TGR

https://cc.collab.land

STEP 2 - Select Your Server
- Choose your server from the left panel
- Click TGRs

STEP 3 - Create a Rule
- Click + Select Role (Discord) or + TGA (Telegram)
- In the case of Discord, choose the role you want to gate

STEP 4 - Configure the Rule
- Add a clear description
- Set:
- Chain Type: Bitcoin
- Token Type: Bitcoin Ordinals

STEP 5 - Choose Holder Identification
Pick one:

Option A (Recommended):

  • Set From = starting inscription number
  • Set To = ending inscription number

Option B (Ordiscan only):

  • Enter the Collection Name exactly as listed

STEP 6 - Set Requirements

  • Define the minimum number of tokens required
  • (Optional) Set a maximum

STEP 7 - Save

Click Save to apply your rule

Important Note for Existing Setups

If your Ordinals TGR was created before March 2026:

  • It may no longer function correctly
  • You should update it using:
    • Inscription ranges (recommended)
    • or Ordiscan collection names (if available)

This ensures your verification setup is stable going forward.

Our Commitment to Communities

Changes in external infrastructure can be disruptive, especially when they affect access to your community.

At Collab.Land, our goal is to provide stable and reliable verification, even as the broader ecosystem evolves.

That means:

  • Continuously adapting to infrastructure changes
  • Reducing reliance on single third-party providers
  • Moving toward more durable, onchain-based verification methods

This update is part of that direction.

By shifting to approaches like inscription number ranges, we’re helping ensure that your token gated access remains consistent and less dependent on external platforms.

We know that many communities rely on these systems every day, and we take that responsibility seriously. Our focus is to keep improving the reliability of verification so you can focus on building and engaging your community.

If you need help updating your setup or have questions along the way, our team is here to support you! You can reach out by submitting a support ticket here: https://collabland.freshdesk.com/support/tickets/new

Collab.Land token gating and membership verification operates as a read-only application. By signing a message to add a new wallet, you affirm ownership of that particular wallet address. Collab.Land solely accesses public blockchains to verify that a member’s wallet addresses are linked to the required tokens for role or group membership. Collab.Land maintains no access beyond reading public wallet addresses, which are transparent to all users.
